![]() Donald "Don" Stewart passed away July 24th at his home at the age of 70. Don was well known around town for his Lake Arrowhead politics, as a regular at the town hall and especially at Hannafords. Don was an undergraduate of Cornell and Adelphi Universities and a graduate of Adelphi University studying conservation. His career ranged from teaching science in New York and New Jersey, to being a director of boat fiberglass operations for a Yacht company. Don moved to Lake Arrowhead in 2001. From his home Don created Cow Harbor Decoys. He started hand carving wood decoys in 1952, carving over 150 while in High School. He studied Long Island decoy making, earning three ribbons out of six entries in 1968-69. Using mounted specimens and live observation, he designed and painted decoys, receiving many awards in the last few years. Testing his decoys floatation in the indoor pool at LAC was a frequent occurrence. Enjoying local politics, Don ran for a position as trustee at Lake Arrowhead. The first time he was not elected but was later sworn in to fill a vacancy. He ran again as an incumbent and was quick to state "I won by a landslide!". Don was the only one running that year. His sense of humor and scholarly quotes will be greatly missed at LAC meetings. He served the community from March 2005 to June of 2007 when he sadly resigned as his home was being sold. Don will be remembered by all. ![]()
